Gem Dance Hall - Setting and Sandbox Rules
Welcome to the Gem Dance Hall and Saloon, where all your wildest dreams can come true -- for some coin, of course.

The Setting:
Welcome to Heehaw Times, brought to you by Gels! It's 1870s Deadwood, a lawless camp out in the Black Hills of what will become South Dakota. There's gold in them there hills!!
So, how does all this work? It's a jamjar, so aliens and non-humans and people from all across times and canons welcome. Deadwood residents won't even flinch at the weirdness (unless you're looking for some fun, RP hostilities, in which case go nuts). Characters can get ~mysteriously stranded~ and wake up on the outskirts of town, become totally AU'd to the setting, or wander through due to whatever time-travel, spaceship nonsense they've got going on. Dealer's choice!

The Camp:
Deadwood's a rough camp of about three main streets consisting of wooden structures built very close together. Nothing's paved, everything's got a nice coating of dust and dirt, and there are still tents on the outskirts of the camp where newcomers can rent a plot. But you've got everything you need there! A hotel for the more well-to-do folks, a postal and freight service, a hardware store, a bath house and public showers, plenty of places to play poker, a butcher, and a grumpy doctor in case you get shot.
The Saloon:
The Gem is a two-story wooden building with a balcony overlooking the main thoroughfare. It was the first wooden building in Deadwood, and the heart and soul of the camp for that exact reason. There are no swinging old-west doors here; everything's locked up tightly cuz those winters are rough in the Black Hills. On the first floor is a piano and raised stage for dancing and performances, and a large, wooden bar sits opposite where a vigilant barkeep watches the business and pours the watered-down drinks. There's also a barber's chair in the corner for the men who need a haircut or shave.
There are personal rooms for the on the first floor, which include a kitchen and a room for washing and bathroom business. The second floor has the rooms for-let, and are used for entertaining guests. On the second floor is also Trixie's office and living quarters, and the only access to the second-floor balcony. This door is only locked when Trixie's out and about.

Patrons and Residents of the Camp:
Hear that tinny piano? The clinking of coins on the bar, glasses being raised, the occasional scuffle on the wooden floors? The Gem is a saloon of the 1870s old west variety; rough-hewn wooden furniture, a large bar with a hand-scrawled menu of drinks to peruse (gin and whiskey, mostly; don't ask for anything fancy), stuffed animal heads on the walls, a platform in the back for a few bawdy shows.
The barman or barber in the corner will greet you with a nod, or perhaps one of the soiled doves working for a living will take you by the arm and lead you to a table for a bawdy chat. There are rooms both upstairs and downstairs for a more private experience, but don't be surprised if a fellow patron gets a little too friendly with a whore in public.
Employees:
Trixie, the madam, is a generous soul. She'll accept anyone for any position, so long as they can prove their merit. Better as a barkeep? Poor those cups! Got a little muscle? Maybe you'd be better suited as one of Trixie's bagmen, someone who doesn't mind getting their hands dirty. And of course there are the whores themselves, the backbone of any good saloon.
Everyone who works at the Gem also lives at the Gem.
"Rules":
This ain't a game, it's a sandbox. We abide by the 'don't be a dick, we're all grown-ups here' rule, and if you can't follow it, don't join. Gels is the law-giver, and she reserves the right to kick your bum to the curb if you're not playing nice. Also, expect mature themes, cuz....saloon.
Use this community as a catch-all for the saloon and the surrounding area. Put up individual threads, get yo sexy on! Anything that might get a little ~freaky~, just make sure to tag it. No saloon characters under 18, please-and-thank-you.
And most importantly: No yucking other people's yums.
